Nutritionist in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire

Angela Loftus
BSc, PGDip, DipION, BANT, CNHC

I am a fully qualified and registered nutritionist in Chorleywood, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire and I also see clients for 121 sessions at a clinic in Chalfont St Giles.

I graduated in 2015 after studying for four years at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition for a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy. Since then I have helped numerous women (and some men) restore their health by rebalancing their hormones and resolving their gut health through individually targeted changes to their diet and lifestyle, sometimes with the help of functional laboratory tests such as stool tests and hormone tests.

In my consultations with clients I combine my nutrition training together with my HR background and Counselling skills (plus being a professional working mother with 4 grown up children) to help clients change their eating behaviours and lifestyle,  by combining evidence based nutrition and motivational coaching.

What is a nutritionist?

A Nutritionist is trained to assess functional & nutritional imbalances at an individual level and based on this assessment provide a personalised nutrition and lifestyle programme to correct these imbalances and restore optimal health.

Nutritional Therapy does not claim to treat, cure or diagnose disease but is a complimentary therapy that works well alongside conventional medicine, restoring health from a functional medicine based approach which means looking at the root causes of your health concerns, not just your symptoms.

By combining this approach with motivational coaching, I can help you resolve your symptoms and empower you to take back control of your health with personalised simple and sustainable food and lifestyle changes.

Why is nutrition so important for health?

Let food be thy medicine

We are bombarded daily with information regarding our eating and lifestyle habits encapsulated in soundbites that sound very simple to adopt but in reality these protocols are often taken out of context from complex nutrition studies and may not be relevant or even appropriate for you. In addition many people are today experiencing debilitating health symptoms and find themselves seeking alternative routes back to health other than through conventional medicine in order to resolve their symptoms and enjoy healthier lives.

The Nutrition and the lifestyle choices we make have a direct impact on our health and well being. Adopting a personalised health programme designed for you by a Nutritionist can help you with these unresolved health issues and debilitating symptoms, enabling you to get on with your life!

Who can a nutritionist help?

Potential clients often contact me saying they have tried everything to resolve their symptoms, have been told there is nothing wrong with them or that no more can be done but still have ongoing nagging symptoms. When our hormones are out of balance especially our thyroid and adrenal (stress) hormones, we may exeprience a number of symptoms which are poorly understood, often undiagnosed (e.g underactive thyroid) and leave us feeling exhausted, overweight, "wired but tired" and generally overwhelmed.

I am passionate about female health and enabling women to live as vibrant a life as possible no matter what age, genetics, environmental or other factors may be impacting their health and lifestyle. I often see clients especially women who do not prioritise their health, ignoring niggling signs and symptoms as they are too busy keeping all the plates spinning, only to reach a point when they realise enough is enough and they want to regain control and be coached on their journey back to health.

Symptoms that I often work with include (but are not limited to) - underactive Thyroid and Adrenal (stress) symptoms, resistant weight loss and fat around the middle, digestive disturbances, PMS, PCOS and menopausal changes, energy and emotional disturbances.

I feel 10 years younger in energy!
I had been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and despite thyroid medication from my GP, still felt tired and cold and so decided to seek Nutritional Therapy to see what else I could do to improve my symptoms. Since meeting with Angela and changing my diet (which was not difficult!), I can honestly say I feel 10 years younger in energy!
The change was remarkable
I was suffering with classic perimenopausal symptoms: hot flushes, mood swings and menopausal acne. The guidance and advice I have received has been invaluable. I can honestly say that within just a few days the change was remarkable - renewed energy, stable moods and clearer skin. After a month the symptoms had all but disappeared and I had also lost half a stone!
Effective and with fresh ideas
I consulted Angela for dietary advice to help reduce my cholesterol levels without recourse to statins. I found her most personable, professional and genuinely interested. My consultation with Angela was illuminating and left me with a much better understanding of the optimum and healthy diet for me.
