About Angela Loftus

Who is Angela Loftus?
I am Angela Loftus BSc, PGDip, DipION, CFMP, BANT, CNHC – a fully qualified Nutritional Therapist and Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner based in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire.
With 10 years’ experience working with over 1,000 clients, I specialise in female hormone health at every stage of life. I work with women experiencing underactive thyroid, PCOS, PMS, endometriosis, perimenopause and menopause; conditions that are often life-limiting, frequently misunderstood, and almost always addressable through targeted nutrition and lifestyle change.
I graduated as a Nutritional Therapist in 2015 and as a Functional Medicine Practitioner in 2021. In my consultations I combine my nutrition expertise with my passion for healthy ageing and wellbeing through diet and exercise, and my counselling qualifications. I help clients change their eating behaviours, exercise and lifestyle habits through evidence-based nutrition and motivational coaching.
My philosophy is to empower as many women as possible to take control of their health & hormones during each decade from their 20s through to their 70s & beyond. I believe in distilling science based knowledge into practical accessible nutrition and lifestyle programmes for women with real lives and real challenges.
My Story
My interest in nutrition started more than 30 years ago, when I was weaning my first daughter on holiday in Spain. A trip to the supermarket was an eye-opener: looking at the ingredients in the well-known baby food brands, I was struck by how many unnecessary and unnatural additives were in those weaning jars. I walked out empty-handed, bought a Moulinex baby food mixer from the local hardware store, and spent the next two weeks happily making my own weaning foods from fresh fruit and vegetables from the local markets.
Three more children later, my passion for healthy, natural eating had grown stronger. When my youngest was ten, I was lucky enough to spend three years at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition, founded by the leading UK nutrition expert Patrick Holford. I qualified in 2015 and set up my nutrition consultancy, Nutrition4Change. Over the past ten years I have worked with more than 1,000 clients, providing personalised nutrition programmes to support female hormone balance in women from their twenties to their seventies.
During COVID, I added to my nutrition knowledge by studying functional medicine, qualifying as a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner in 2021. This allows me to help clients with more complex health challenges, using a functional medicine approach alongside a toolkit of tests to more accurately identify the underlying causes of their conditions.
After ten years in practice, my goal remains the same: to help as many clients, friends and family as possible to live their best lives by sharing my knowledge and expertise, and to lead by example, with my own nutrition evolving through the decades alongside a commitment to three weekly strength training sessions and Reformer Pilates.
Several people and books shaped my determination to study nutrition and to live the kind of healthy, intentionally active life I now help my clients build (I am still doing weighted chin-ups in my sixties). Holistic health practitioner Paul Chek’s work on movement and whole-body wellbeing was an early and lasting influence, alongside Paul Pitchford’s writing on whole foods and the meeting of Asian and Western nutritional traditions. Jerome Burne and Patrick Holford’s work on the role of food in preventing and treating chronic illness reinforced my conviction that nutrition belongs at the heart of healthcare. More recently, I have followed the work of naturopath Lara Briden, whose writing on hormones, periods and women’s metabolic health has been particularly influential in how I think about supporting female clients across every life stage.
Who I Work With
I am passionate about female hormone health and enabling women to live as vibrant a life as possible no matter what age, genetics, environmental or other factors may be impacting their health and lifestyle.
The women I work with are often exhausted, frustrated, and have frequently been told by their GP that their results are ‘normal’, yet they know something is wrong. They are dealing with symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, mood swings, heavy periods, hot flushes, brain fog, and poor sleep that are significantly impacting their quality of life.
By engaging with me, I can help you identify the root cause of your symptoms, regain control, and coach you on your journey back to hormone balance, no matter what life stage you are at.
Conditions I frequently work with include:
- Underactive thyroid and Hashimoto’s
- PCOS
- PMS and PMDD
- Endometriosis
- Perimenopause
- Menopause
My Approach
Hormone imbalances are complex and will only be resolved if we understand the root cause and make sustainable, targeted dietary and lifestyle changes to address them, sometimes using functional lab testing to provide further insight into symptoms.
I typically help clients work with some core principles: eating whole, single-ingredient natural foods, consuming quality protein, ensuring healthy fats are included at every meal, eating as many fibrous foods as possible to support detoxification of unwanted hormones, and reducing stimulants such as caffeine, sugar and alcohol.
Alongside nutrition, I make lifestyle recommendations to help balance hormones – including managing stress, reducing exposure to environmental hormone disruptors, and supporting the body’s natural detoxification pathways.
Where appropriate, I also recommend targeted supplementation based on individual assessment and, wherever possible, functional testing to assess levels.
What My Clients Say
“I had been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and despite thyroid medication from my GP, still felt tired and cold and so decided to seek Nutritional Therapy to see what else I could do to improve my symptoms. Since meeting with Angela and changing my diet (which was not difficult!), I can honestly say I feel 10 years younger in energy!”
“I was suffering with classic perimenopausal symptoms: hot flushes, mood swings and menopausal acne. The guidance and advice I have received has been invaluable. I can honestly say that within just a few days the change was remarkable – renewed energy, stable moods and clearer skin. After a month the symptoms had all but disappeared and I had also lost half a stone!”
“I first approached Angela after struggling with hormone issues, PMS, and low energy for years. Her knowledge and guidance helped me make small but
powerful changes to my diet and lifestyle. Within months, my sleep, mood, and overall wellbeing had improved dramatically. Angela is so supportive and makes the process enjoyable – I feel like I finally understand how to look after my health.”
“I first approached Angela having suffered for years with unmanageably heavy periods, PMS, gut problems and various other hormone-related issues. After having tests done and seeing the hormone imbalance results on paper, Angela could help me to help myself.
She is a whirlpool of nutritional knowledge and a helping hand along the journey. I have adapted myself and my diet to eat smarter for my hormonal imbalance, improving my sleep as a starting point. Life is so busy and chaotic at times and we really don’t realise how much things impact our health and hormones. Every check-in with Angela guided me to a better quality of health, making small changes each time. After six months under her advice I’m really starting to see and feel the benefits, and I look forward to a continued working relationship. Angela is a lovely lady which just made the whole process even more pleasant. Thank you for helping me Angela, it has been beneficial beyond words.”
“I sought much needed help from Angela after a prolonged period of feeling tired and exhausted and suffering from a foggy head and lack of motivation, as a consequence of the effects of an under-active thyroid. Despite being on conventional medication for my thyroid, it simply wasn’t working and I was looking for an alternative well-being approach to improve my health.
Angela has taken a comprehensive approach to look at all aspects of my life which were impacting my well-being and has worked with me to introduce many improvements that have had a profound impact on my overall health. Some of the changes include a tailored nutrition plan, setting a healthy sleep routine, introducing appropriate supplements and assisting with a holistic mind-body approach to introduce more balance into my busy life. These overall changes have not only had a huge positive effect on my health, the main one being a significant improvement in my foggy head — they have also given me renewed focus and drive.”
“After a free discovery call, based on my symptoms of hormone imbalance, Angela recommended DUTCH and thyroid testing. She explained the findings to me very clearly and it has helped me to identify areas I needed to improve through diet and lifestyle.
With her encouraging advice I made gradual dietary and lifestyle changes (as I don’t do well with big changes) and I feel confident that I can now continue to improve my energy and thyroid levels. I am more knowledgeable about the connection between a balanced diet, exercise and maintaining optimal thyroid levels and boosting metabolism.I would absolutely contact Angela if I had any queries in the future and recommend others do also. Thank you!”
